Managing Partner Martin Cornish Interviewed by HFMWeek on Hedge Fund Start-Ups
2008
Martin Cornish, the firm’s Managing Partner, spoke with HFMWeek on the climate for setting up hedge funds in Europe and offshore locations. In the interview, Mr. Cornish says, “Managers are setting up in Europe all the time and, while the numbers may be smaller, the quality of managers has risen. Now, managers are more often starting with significant amounts of friends and family money, seed investor capital or via incubators of one kind or another.” On the subject of jurisdictions, he says, “Managers typically want to be in sophisticated financial centres rather than on the beach in the Cayman Islands or Bermuda as long as the regulatory position is not too onerous and they are usually happy to pay some tax.” (“When will I (not) be Cayman?” 2008)
