Martin Cornish and Edward Black Quoted in Opalesque on EU Directive
13 May 2009
Martin Cornish, the firm’s Managing Partner, and Edward Black, a special counsel in the Financial Services Practice, were quoted in an article in Opalesque on the EU's Directive on Alternative Investment Fund Managers. Mr. Black says this is an example of a new era—a stark contrast to recent years, which have seen some moves towards lighter regulation. He adds that the requirements will impose standards that will make business more difficult. Mr. Cornish also offers some critiques of the proposed regulations. “The assumption that fund managers pull all the strings is naïve,” he says. “And it is not entirely clear whether the authors clearly understand the matter.” (“Katten’s lawyers dissect the EC Directive draft and raise questions,” 13 May 2009)
