Andrew MacLaren graduated in Economics and Law from Cambridge University.

Having trained at Allen & Overy, he worked at Linklaters & Paines and then joined the US banking industry for some eleven years working in London and New York and having responsibility for legal matters worldwide.   In 1985 he moved to Hong Kong to become a partner in Deacons with management responsibilities and legal adviser to the Hong Kong Association of Banks.

More recently he returned to London and was a partner in MW Cornish & Co before joining the Price Waterhouse legal network where he became responsible for Risk Management in the worldwide Price Waterhouse legal group.

He specialises in general banking, structured finance, trade finance, banking regulation and corporate law.   He has worked and advised on major issues including the imposition of negative interest rates on bank deposits by the Hong Kong Government, the reversal by ordinance in Hong Kong of the rule in Re Charge Card Services Limited and has appeared as an expert witness on the subparticipation of loans in the High Court of the Bahamas.

He speaks French and some German and Spanish and is a past chairman of the London Oriana Choir and the Tudeley Festival (which promotes pre-nineteenth century music).
